We had three students attempt grading for their black belt at our most recent grading.
Connor, aged 12, Kaitlyn, aged 12 and Daisy, aged 9, have each dedicated nearly five years to their training and know getting a black belt from our club is an impressive accomplishment that only a select few achieve.
The grading was the most significant test they had faced yet. It involved demonstrating different patterns, self-defence abilities, participating in full-contact fighting, and breaking timber boards in front of 8th Dan Grandmaster Seungha Lee.
Our instructors put a lot of effort into assisting them to prepare for the big day, which paid off. Master Lee was very happy with their performance and awarded them black belts.
Our classes not only teach skills but also help develop character. As part of the grading process, students wrote an essay reflecting on the benefits of training. Connor’s piece highlighted the actual value of our program.
“Taekwondo has taught me to be patient and control my words, thoughts, and actions. It has helped me learn to keep my emotions in check and helped me to look at difficult situations with a positive attitude …… I think I have strong moral principles, and taekwondo has taught me to follow what I believe in and see what is right and wrong.”
